I've been a musician since I was
a kid, starting on piano. Piano bored the hell out of me, & I switched
to guitar, and I've had a long, happy, loving affair with acoustic guitars
since. I write songs, and have many, many recordings on tape
(mostly)with me on guitar, &
sometimes bass, mandolin, or harmonica. So here we go...
CD's
Sleepy Monster Goals
My latest & greatest collection of originals &
covers. Available in both cd & cassette form, each of which differ
ever so slightly. The cd has 4 extra tracks recorded in 1996, & doesn't
include the tunes "Cop Song," & "Carol Says."
With
Cowboy Buddah
Live in studio recording from 1995.
Featuring the tunes "Everyday," "Bluelight," "Leave Me Something Inside,"
"Mystery Syd," "Easy 567," "30 Seconds," and "1818 Magazine St." The Bud
were Fletcher Harrington,
vocals/guitar, Steve Frutos, vocals/ld
guitar, me, bass/vocals, Scott Rialson, drums. We endeavored to be like
the Band, with a strong folk-rock, Dylan ethos. In reality, we sounded
like the Shaggs meets John Denver marries Neil Young. Please take one,
for as Jandek says, "I've got to move them."
With
Sheer Zed...
A demo cd recorded hurriedly at
Media Kitchen Studios in August 2000. Original compositions. Barebones,
with acoustic guitar, some harmonica, and one bum note. Chris Jones on
vocals, me guit/vocs. Sheer Zed is currently a full-fledged band, with
John Irvine on bass, & Brian
Farrell on drums. Stay tuned for
some February recordings. (hypothetically).
Tapes
One 5-song demo tape
is available by the Zed, recorded
in Al's bedsit in Holloway on a 4-track. Songs are "Blu-Tack Rembrandt,"
(featuring crunchy vocals!) "Remember It," "Low Tide Melt," and I forget
the other. The 5th song stems from a Media Kitchen recording project. It
is a cover of the Robyn Hitchcock song "When I Was a Kid," done for a Robyn
tribute project, and I really like this recording. Really.
Steep Ramp Absolutely
All me mine. Tracks recorded on
the family karaoke machine in 2000. Quite lo-fi at times. Featuring the
songs, "Pillow Messiah," "Tooth Decay," "Cinnamon Buns, & Guns &
Toys," "Steep Ramp Absolutely," "Midnight Attack," & much much
more.
Acoustic guitar, some harmonica,
some mandolin, some echo.
The 96 Project
In 1996, I agreed to be the guinea
pig for my friend Mark who'd set up a new recording
studio. These recordings are the
fruits of these labors. I play acoustic guitar, some bass, harmonica. Mark
shreds on lead guitar, piano, some bass. Drummer-in-a-box.
Featuring my own songs, such as
an attempt at bawdy blues,"Right or Wrong," (lyrics 'I'm
a cigarette for you baby, won't
you puff me all night long!'!) "Virgil,(He Doesn't Bend)" "Doorstep," "Underground,"
"Dublin Rain," "Temporary Insanity," & many more.
Into the Light
In late '93, early '94, I was one
half of a duo, with my then partner Michael. This is a live
recording done at a coffeehouse
sometime round then. Quite straight ahead folk, rarely straying from safe
harbor. If you like acoustic guitars chiming in rhythm, and lots of Dylan
covers, brother, this tapes' for you!
The Blue Silhouettes
Song demo tape from 1990, done
with my then-partner Matt. Songs include our own
composition, "Seehorses," covers
such as "Shipwrecked at the Stable Door," & a couple others. Acoustic
guitars w/harmonica. Matt lead vocs, me back-up. You Jane.
Angel '94
This demo tape stems from recordings
done at Oxymoron Studios. An acquaintance of mine had just finished an
album project, and gave me his left over studio time to record. The catch
was, it had to be done at the allotted time & date, which was midnight,
and I was sick w/the flu. Anyway, the tape is all my originals, "Boy in
the Hood," "30 Seconds," "Wined & Dined," (not to be confused w/Syd
Barretts) & my romantic little country ditty, "He Holds Me."
Aaahhhh....
(note to Ben...Are you regretting asking me to participate in this yet???)
The Bathroom Tapes
All done on my friends 4-track
in 1995. My own songs, "The Bulls of the Widow Ortega,"
(you may notice the Beefheart influence
creeping in!) "Still Naked," "His Mind," "Noads & Chords," & Robyn
H cover, "Man w/ Womans Shadow."
The Mulligan Sessions
I fell in love with traditional
Irish folk music in 1994, promptly bought a mandolin, and found a bar that
had a weekly open session for this music. So here I am, on my mandy, mostly.
I was
lucky to jam with some fine musicians,
and continued participating on a weekly basis for several months until
the bar closed down. Anyway, unfortunately, on
this night, it was shaky, but fun.
Lo-fi, and kinda crappy. For completists only.
OK I'm done now:)
