(no particular preference)
9. HOW DID YOU FIRST DISCOVER CAPTAIN BEEFHEART & THE MAGIC
BAND, AND WAS THERE A PARTICULAR SONG THAT MADE YOU SEE THE LIGHT?:
First exposed to CB&MB around 1975 at parties where you might also
have heard "American Beauty", "Tarkus", "Zoot Allures", "Chicago II", etc...
Later, heard "TMR" while in college in late-70's...didn't connect yet...
In 1984, in the Southwestern Texas desert, found an amazing used record
store owned by a Beefheart freak. He heard my music and suggested
"The Spotlight Kid". I instantly 'got' it, and have been a fond advocate
ever since. Through associations in music journalism and recording
during the 80's, I was able to obtain some very cool 'rare' stuff (most
of which has since become available).
10. NUMBER OF BEEFHEART GIGS SEEN, AND WHICH YEARS:

14. ANY OTHER INFO YOU WISH TO ADD?
At several points on my 25 year performing continuum, I have had my
aesthetic hammered by an amazing sonic artist and have been literally forced
to reevaluate my impetuses and motivations to continue. I am extremely
grateful to have had CV&MB's music to spring from in the 80's. Other
'springboards' over the years have been the artists listed in #7, amongst
others. As you know, E. Chadbourne has been a BIG CB fan forever.
I am tickled to be performing and recording with several musicians who've
worked with EC. They add the kind of wobble and thump that has always
appealed to me in the Magic Band's work. Yummy!
