OI OI OI
GREAT gig, definitely in my top 20 I've been to, and
that's saying something. One of those gigs where the audience are up for
it, the band are up for it, and magic happens...
The Streets, a genuine peoples' band. A lot of love in
that room....wot a great atmos... the guy next to me said, 'I've been to
a lot of gigs here, but never seen one go off like this before'.
Girls (and guys!) were throwing their undies onstage...
The band, (bass, drums, keyboards/electronics), were
really talented musicians, tight as fuck. Mike and his singing partner
Kev were superstars, really charismatic...
SO glad I caught them at this stage...next tour is bound
to be bigger, less intimate venues.
Failed to meet up with the message board regs tho'...they
couldn't get in the uni bar cos door staff were checking for SU cards...(me
and Gilly got in ok, but we were there early, before
the checks started). Once in the hall we were looking
out for them, and they us, but we missed each other in the tightly packed
crowd...
Didn't matter tho', the brilliance of the gig overcame
my disappointment at not meeting them.
OI OI OI OI!
Whinny's review
Hey boys and girls!! I got there bout 6pm with Blad,
Paddy the Greek and Dan. Trouble was once we found the refectory we tried
to get in to three or four 'uni bars' (We wrongly assumed there was one
!!) we were rebuffed each time as we were without student uni cards. (Not
being students you see) Mel had met Vicks and Hells Bells (Pair of good
honest down to earth Geordie lasses...) earlier in the day. At this point
it looked like we would have to meet Mel on the way in.
Dan then got a call from Mel on his mobile and we all
duly met up at 'The Library' pub just up from the uni.
We all had a couple of drinks and made our way towards
the refectory. We hung around towards the back of the hall (Adjacent to
the bar area) whilst More Fire were doing their thing.
Once Streets came on stage we headed further up front
(Stage left) GREAT sound, GREAT performance and the crowd really loved
it. (Mike will vouch for that being one pair of red silk knickers to the
good like !!!!) I especially enjoyed Too much brandy (My favourite anyway)
and the rendition of Weak become heroes at the end....Ah fuck it, they
were all good !! One thing that did get on my tits all night though was..........My
F***ing cold. Three JD,s didnt even move the thing.....For info. Mel, Vicks
and Hells Bells shouldnt have been too hard to spot as they all had white
T-shirts with their names on !!! All in all top neet, but will check the
next one out in better health hopefully.

Nice 1 Whin....we got into the uni bars without hassle
but when we came out we saw door staff checking people for uni cards....during
More Fire Crew we were opposite the doors, trying to keep an eye out for
ya....when Streets came on we were 1/2 way between mixing desk and stage,
stage right.......I had my white T with name on too...soz we missed ya
all.
Vicks's review
Have to say the gig was 100% top quality from beginning
to end. Sorry I didn't get to meet everyone but I did meet with Mel the
Bell, Whinny, Dan, Paddy the Greek and Blad - top blokes me thinks. The
video from Irony of it all was hilarious although I did feel a bit short
changed and would have preferred to hear Mike sing it live - he didn't
did he? (I wasn't even pissed). Whinny, any time u lot fancy a night out
in Newcastle just give us a shout and tell Dan that Hells Bells was up
for him :)
Whinny
Vicks and Hells Bells are tops! Great to meet the pair
of ya.
I especially like it when Vicks said to Dan."Is that
some glitter on your tooth?" (Dan has a small artificial diamond embedded
into one of his front teeth. I dont know why either before you ask) Dan
replied that it was said small artificial stone. "YOU PUFF !!" was Vicks
wonderful response. I love plain speaking people !! You would think he
would have it removed due to the fact that EVERYONE thinks it looks crap.....And
it does !! Well said Vicks!!
