9. HOW DID YOU FIRST DISCOVER CAPTAIN BEEFHEART & THE MAGIC
BAND,
AND WAS THERE A PARTICULAR SONG THAT MADE YOU SEE THE LIGHT?:
I was at a friend's house when I was 16 and he had a copy of
Trout Mask Replica. I asked him to play it and I was hooked
right from Dachau Blues on. I'm one of those oddballs that
liked Beefheart right from the first
listening. His music made perfect sense. Of course, it
didn't hurt that at this time, I was really sick of listening
to the top 40 crap that was typically spewing forth from the popular
radio stations of the day. Beefheart music was a bright spot in the world
of teeny-bop bubble-gum muzak. Thanks Don.
One more thing... How did my friend happen to have a copy of
Trout Mask? He was at a local discount store when he first saw the album
sitting in the record rack. He had never heard of Captain Beefheart before.
He
bought it because HE LIKED THE PICTURES ON THE ALBUM COVER! Front
and back. Nice job, Hurb.
