I consider this photograph a good piece of history. The principal head mistress of the school at the time was Miss B.T.Oughton-Giles, known to everyone as Gi. During my stay at St. Mary's Gi died and the head mistress position was passed on to a Miss Shaw. I am in the very front row, third from the left. One of my best memories of the school was the acres of wood land, kitchen gardens and fields. The school grounds were vast and contained many features of an Edwardian age. It was only after Miss Oughton-Giles died that a large portion of the school property was sold. Consequently the sold landscape was demolished for urban development. |
