David Leslie

Leslie gained some military experience fighting in the Thirty Years War for Sweden.

When the Scottish decided to support the parliamentarians in England, he was appointed 2nd-in- command under the Earl of Leven. Leslie led a brigade of cavalry with great success at Marston Moor.

Later he opposed Oliver Cromwell in Scotland, but was captured in 1651 and imprisoned until 1660.
