Education ranges from pre-schoolers to high school dropouts to people with multiple doctorates. There are Mensans on social security and Mensans who are millionaires, although most are neither. There are famous Mensans and prize-winning Mensans, but there are many, many more whose names you wouldn’t know and whose IQ scores might surprise even their neighbours. As far as occupations are concerned, the range is staggering. Mensa has professors and truck drivers, scientists and firemen, computer engineers and farmers, artists, military people, musicians, labourers, policemen, glassblowers - you name it.
Mensans will tell you, however, that the social side of Mensa is the primary draw. Many confess they originally took a qualifying test “just to see if I could make it.” However, after attending a Mensa meeting, party or event, they become intrigued. The combination of intellectual stimulation, good humour and provocative conversation found at most Mensa events proves irresistible.
