Aperiodic Tilings

The study of pattern has as a constant theme the interplay of regularity and irregularity -- from the perfect tiling of a wallpaper repeat to the endless harmonic variety of Nature. Aperiodic tilings are those strange mathematical patterns that lie exactly on the boundary: tilings that are made of simple geometric shapes that fit together perfectly, but do not repeat!
