Borders

Patterns can repeat in many ways other than just by tiling (and indeed, many wonderful patterns never repeat at all). Crafts as varied as mediaeval stonework and picture-framing create decorative borders which can find uses today as page boundaries and separators: or we can simply enjoy the subtle beauty and creativity that they embody.

Other patterns that would make nice borders include the Friezes from Indonesia, the Indian Box motif, and the Batik repeats.
