Tjap

The Tjaps are beautifully made blocks of copper, light and strong. Each one is handmade in the form of a 'repeat' of the desired pattern. In service, it is dipped into the hot wax, aligned with the previous imprints, and pressed on to the cloth. A Tjap takes several days to build from soldered copper strips and wire, and costs about US$20 to make (in Bali or Java). Buying a Tjap
