"The biggest little festival in Britain"
The Black Horse Folk Club was a popular Saturday night event from 1963 until 1981. Due to the structural alterations to the barn at the side of the Black Horse Pub, the folk club closed. Richard Digance and many other performers came to the last night, not because they were invited guests, they were not. They came because they realised the significance of the occasion.
Many years later when the first reunion was organised, so many people turned up, the pub could not cope. Singers, performers, friends and the public mingled in the chaos inside and outside the building. None of us realised how popular this reunion would be. The following year a marquee was hired and an entry fee was charged to cover the cost of the marquee.
In 1992, we had our first four day event. It was a huge success! Over a thousand people came throughout that weekend. During the following years, the festival grew, providing a weekend of various music forms in a convivial and easily accessible atmosphere. This year we are planning to cope with a thousand people for each session.
We have always endeavoured to book artistes with a local link.
