BARRA MacNEILL'S - Timespan (Iona Records IRCD 043)
This is a compilation cd of the engaging Canadian band similar in style to their more well established counterparts the Rankin Family. Selected songs and instrumental sets from their first three albums, this album gives the listener a chance to hear both their contemporary and traditional material. I must admit to not going overboard on the accordion led tunes which has a lumpy, leaden feel but this is only a minor criticism on what is otherwise a well balanced and recorded selection.
