Presidential toast at 'Lunar 7' bar, Buchanan St. This pub
had a space theme and we thought it might become a major
social venue for ASTRA, but the music was much too loud -
years before that became the general curse it is
now. May 17.
Interstellar Project discussions resumed at Granville Bar,
off Sauchiehall St. June 18. Oscar
produces special 'Climatics' issue of Spacereport, relating
to his talk in the Interstellar Project. July 20-21.
Everyone at Oscar and Margaret's house to watch the Moon
landing in colour. There's a partial description of this in
"New Worlds for Old", but Paul Barnett, the Editor, removed
my description of the toasts and celebration which
followed. Sept.17. Visit
to Philips, Hamilton, to see robot machinery designed by
Oscar. Nov.19. Visit
to the new University Observatory, Maryhill Road. The old Observatory
had been demolished to make way for the new Queen Margaret
Union, Green's Playhouse was no more, and our GUU
affiliation had lapsed. Meetings were now being held at the
Granville Bar, taking our cue from the Glasgow SF Circle,
but attendance was falling and by the end of the year was
down to just Oscar and me. Was this the end? Oscar had the
option of leasing meeting rooms from Hamilton District
Council, and since there was no-one else to ask, we went
ahead. The layout was
lecture room, workshop, kitchenette and outside toilet, on
the first floor, 189 Almada Street, Hamilton, at Peacock
Cross. The lecture room was to be decorated with a beautiful
mural by Ed
Buckley of
the star clouds in Scorpius, and a series of work meetings
ensued. Meanwhile Interstellar Project meetings continued at
the Granville.
