Mar.19. Ed Buckley reveals chalk drawings for interstellar project artwork.

Apr.15. Unofficial opening of new premises for Presidential Toast.

Apr.29. Official opening by Prof. Nonweiler, speaking on 'The Apollo 13 Disaster'.

Oct.10. Weekly meetings begun at Hamilton rooms with 'The Development of Launch Vehicles', 'Early Rocketry', 'The Solar System'.

Nov.7. Chris Boyce, 'On the Interpreting of Extraterrestrial Cultures', Part 1. Talk printed in Spacereport vol.2 no.1 (see below) and abridged in Asgard vol.1. no.1 (see 1977).

Nov.18-22. First ASTRA exhibition, in the rooms and the empty flat next door, featuring paintings by Ed Buckley, photographs on loan from members' collections, a radio-astronomy experiment featuring equipment on loan from Philips Hamilton, and a display of astronomical telescopes by Charles Frank Ltd.. Before return, the 6" reflector was used for a very successful observing night. After the exhibition we continued to use the next-door flat unofficially as offices, with the intention of taking them over - but see below.

A special exhibition issue of Spacereport was produced, including the text of Chris Boyce's Nov.7 lecture. Only 21 people visited the exhibition, which was not supported by the local press. However, 13 of those joined, and they brought in more. The arrival of young people including Jimmy Price, Gavin Roberts, Bill Ramsay and Joyce Mains was another vital step in the evolution of the society.

Nov.23. ASTRA membership year fixed as the calendar year.

Dec.12. John Bell, 'The Case against Space Travel'. This debate forms the basis of chap.4 of "Man and the Stars", the book of the Interstellar Project (see 1974).
