Travel Directions to Airdrie from Edinburgh

Travelling by Train

Although there are a number of options the most straight forward journey would be to travel to Glasgow Queen Street Station from Edinburgh. Once at Glasgow Queen Street follow the description from the Glasgow to Airdrie details.

Travelling by Car

There are a number of possible routes when travelling by car, the description given here is ONE possible route.

For a general overview of the route once you near Airdrie please refer to Map One - there are more detailed maps referred to within the text below.

N.B. All directions on maps relate to the 'Yellow' arrows shown on the maps.

Leave Edinburgh and head for Glasgow on the M8. AT junction 6 leave the motorway and bear round to the right heading for Chapelhall on Bellside Road following the road signs for Airdrie (Map Five).

Continue along Main Street in Chapelhall keeping to the road you are on. At the traffic lights in Chapelhall go straight across (Map Five).

Continuing along this road will bring you onto Carlisle Road, passing Chapelhall Industrial Estate on the left. Continue along this road which drops via a series of bends to a bridge which crosses the North Calder Water and then goes uphill (Map Five).

Continue on Carlisle Road, passing a petrol station on the left hand side and Airdrie Football Ground to the Right. Keep going until you reach a roundabout at a cross roads with a petrol station on the right (Map Two).

Turn to the left and continue along Clark Street lending onto Graham Street. At the end of Graham Street, after passing Airdrie Sheriff Court turn left at the roundabout (Map Five).

In less than 100 yards, with the Safeway supermarket to the left bear round to the right (third exit off the roundabout - including the turning for the supermarket).

Head down the hill to the next roundabout when you should bear round to the right again into Broomknoll Street. Continue until you come to the cross roads controlled by traffic lights. Go straight across into Bank Street. At the next cross roads turn left into Anderson Street(Map Two).

The Airdrie Arts Centre is about half way along Anderson Street, next to the Police Station. You should be able to park in Anderson Street, or in the nearby streets(Map Two).

To find Airdrie Public Observatory continue along Anderson Street - on foot - past the Airdrie Arts Centre, up to the end of Anderson Street. With the Police Station on your left locate the Church Gates which should be directly in front of you. To the left of the Church Gates is the building containing Airdrie Public Library.

Airdrie Public Library is also the location of Airdrie Public Observatory.
