This course is
for Certificate holders (CTA) only. It consists of
fifteen lessons provided as PDF files sent via e-mail, or
on CD ROM (at extra cost). You can read the materials on your
computer screen, or print them to read in hardcopy.
This
is a fully
tutored course via e-mail and you are required to complete assignments
demonstrating your understanding of the principles you have
learned which are graded and a report sent to you.
This course builds
on the Foundation Studies course and introduces advanced techniques
to deepen your understanding of the horary
art and of prediction.
At the conclusion of the course you will be expected to submit
three verifiable predictions which together with a successful
final examination (added to continuous
assessment) will gain you the Diploma of Traditional
Astrology (DTA).
The overall aim
is for you to attain the knowledge required for predictive
work. As the syllabus demonstrates, the course is comprehensive
and addresses and explains all of the most commonly used techniques.
Most lessons contain supplementary reading and example judgements.
The Syllabus
Lesson 1: Significators,
part and co-significators, the Moon as co-significator,
chart turning, planets in houses. You begin to refine
your knowledge of the planets and their application in
prediction.
Lesson 2: Oriental and occidental, combustion, under beams and cazimi,
void of course, besieged. This lesson is largely concerned
with conditions relating to the Sun, continuing to build
on what you have learned of the importance of the luminaries.
Lesson 3: Essential dignity, receiver, mutual reception, peregrine.
We proceed to a consideration of the sometimes complex relationships
between planets other than aspectual.
Lesson 4: The question, validity, planetary days and hours, Considerations
Before Judgement, perfection, translation and collection
of light, prohibition. This lesson provides explanations
of some of the conditions which prevent judgement, or are
the cause of problems in judgement.
Lesson 5: The Part of Fortune, scoring the Part of Fortune, scoring
the planets. Here we examine the principle of strength and
weakness, and present methods of discovering them.
Lesson 6: Event charts, stations, timing. In this lesson you will
broaden your astrological knowledge by investigating event
charts (a chart for the time of a known event) and the methods
of timing in judgements.
Lesson 7: Temperament, the humours, physical descriptions, marks,
moles and scars. The humours and temperaments are a vital
key to the nativity, but here you will discover how they
can assist you in horary judgement. Lilly relied greatly
on the physical description of the querent to confirm the
validity of the chart. In this lesson you will learn how
he did that.
Lesson 8: Fixed stars, antiscia, sinister and dexter. The fixed stars
are little understood and our knowledge of them relies largely
on Ptolemy’s legacy. You will examine fixed stars and compare
their meanings and positions to those
of Lilly and Ebertin.
We explain the lesser known techniques of
sinister and
dexter aspects, and antiscia. This lesson will expand your
vocabulary still further and deepen your understanding of
some of the intricacies of the Tradition.
Lesson 9: Locating by planet, sign and house. Locating people, animals
and objects are the horary practitioner’s stock-in-trade.
You will now investigate the methods used to carry this
out.
Lesson 10: Chart judgement, examples. At this point, we are putting
flesh on the bones of your knowledge of prediction. The
chart examples enable us to demonstrate the theory in practice,
and to bridge some of the gaps that theory alone cannot
do.
Lesson 11: The 1st house, more on the planets, As you near
the end of your studies there is much left to say about
the angular houses. This lesson discusses the 1st house and its meanings. You will be dealing with the techniques
applied to finding missing people, and you will examine
planetary symbolism again from the ancient perspective of
Dorotheus of Sidon.
Lesson
12: The angles, discussion on the Considerations Before
Judgement, and your participation in a
discussion of them.
Lesson
13: The 7th house, more on the signs. You will now
examine the 7th house and discuss its importance
with additional study of the symbolism of the signs. More
discussion is provided, offering you the opportunity to
participate.
Lesson
14: The 10th house, more on the houses. Moving on
to the 10th house and its significance, you will
also study the development of the houses from Manilius to
Dariot and their meanings. Again, we will discuss this new
material and find its essence.
Lesson
15: The 4th house. You will encounter the 4th house at a deeper level and learn of its significations.
Discussions continue in this lesson as before.
Assignments
Each lesson provides
a set of assignments that you will submit to your tutor. Each
set of assignments contains two charts (horary or event) which
you will judge. You will also be expected to provide horary
charts of your own, with their
judgements.
We use a system
of marking called "continuous assessment". Each
set of assignments is graded and a report sent to you with
your tutor's comments. The grades you receive provide a guide
to your progress and are added at the end of the course to
those you have obtained in the final examination. Where the
total exceeds the minimum required, the Diploma of Traditional
Astrology is awarded to you once the
verified predictions have been accepted. Full details of this are provided
in The Study Guide.
Fees
The fee is £42.00
per lesson and is inclusive of the study material (PDF files)
and tuition. Should you require the material to be sent to
you as hard copy or on CD, an extra charge of £3.00 will be
made to cover costs.
You may pay for
each lesson as you require it, and it will be sent to you
via e-mail when payment is received. You
may also pay for groups of five lessons.
The final examination
has a separate fee of £42.00.
Tuition
Your tutor will allocate two
hours’ tuition to each lesson; it is rare that less time is
spent, but should more time be required repeatedly you will be
notified and charged accordingly. The Study Guide contains examples of the circumstances
where this might arise, but warnings are
always given. If you are studying
correctly and understanding the material,
further time should not be required unless
you consistently submit work that runs
over the advised length.
Personal one-to-one
tuition is provided with this course as
you require it and is charged separately. It is carried out via
email, by telephone or, to those living within easy reach
of Sue Ward (UK), in person. Extra tuition is charged at a £40.00 per hour (minimum half
an hour).
Examination
When you have
completed the Diploma Studies, you can sit an examination.
This is very straightforward and is "open book".
It takes four hours, and is conducted via email at a time
that suits you.
In addition,
you are asked to submit three successful, verifiable predictions.
You are allowed four attempts to produce these
three correct
predictions, after that each submission is charged at £20.00.
The examination and submission of the predictions are not
compulsory, but both must be completed satisfactorily for
a Diploma to be awarded.
On the satisfactory
completion of the above, you will be awarded the Diploma of
Traditional Astrology (DTA) and your name entered into the
Register of Diploma Holders. You can then use the initial
DTA after your name in matters relating to astrology.
