Because I paint mostly from my ideas and imagination I also need to show, for myself more than anything else, that painting has other avenues and disciplines. The purpose of these paintings is to show an endeavour of painting a tangible world, different from my symbolist paintings, which come from ideas. I think this is important because there is a marked difference in the two types of approach. In some instances, in my still life paintings, the handling of the paint application is better than in my symbolist painting, also, the colouring is more refined in my still life paintings. It can be quite difficult to conjure up an image from an idea, from imagination, there is alway the question of from where to refer. Sometimes, I find it a relief to paint something that is in front of me because there is a point of reference in a tangible reality in which I can interpret a language, a painting. There are the tricks of perceptive, objects, juxtapositions etc. From such a reference I can either present reality or deviate into abstraction. |
