Charles Fleetwood

Portrait of Fleetwood. Kindly donated by Steve Manganiello. Born: 1618, Northamptonshire
Died: 1692, London
Allegiance: Parliamentarian
Position: General of horse

Fleetwood joined the parliamentary cause later than most commanders - before the 1st battle of Newbury.

He commanded a cavalry regiment at Naseby , where they were successful against Prince Rupert's horse.

By 1650, Fleetwood had become general of horse under Oliver Cromwell. As such, he fought at Dunbar and at Worcester.

He was a religious man, much like Cromwell, and eventually married one of Cromwell's daughters.

Fleetwood outlived all the other parliamentary commanders, dying in 1692.
