Free Website...

Got an Internet account? Got Email? Yes? Then round it all off with a cool website and homepage!
Below are templates for several kinds of homepage, just choose the one you want. Once you've made your
selection you will need to copy the HTML code from the appropriate dialogue box. Use cut and paste to transfer this code to a Notepad file (any other simple TEXT ONLY program will do if you don't have Notepad)

You will need to get some webspace before you can publish your website. Go to Hypermart to get 10meg of webspace absolutely free. When Hypermart send you the confirmation Email with your webspace details, read it carefully and follow the FTP download instructions. Details on uploading your website to your webspace can be found at the bottom of this page

Hypermart give you this free service so long as you include a small banner ad to their homepage in your site. Don't worry about creating this banner, it is already included in the HTML provided below.

Also included is a banner link back to the Saturn homepage. Please do not delete either our banner link or Hypermart's from your site. Doing so will result in the termination of your website. Once your website is up and running be sure to follow this link for great free advice on making the most of your site including promotion, search engine submission, money making tips and affiliate prospects. The passnumber to get this great free advice is '685'.

About Me

This homepage will include information about you, a picture of you (optional) and contact info.An about me website is great if you like chat sites. You can enter your URL under your chat handle then, when you chat with someone, they can take a look at your homepage and find out a bit more about you. If your site includes a picture then they can see what you look like too.

Copy and paste this HTML into a Notepad file then save the file to a temporary folder on your hard drive.
Call the file "default.htm" without the inverted commas.

Read Me

Once you have copied the HTML into notepad you should maximize the notepad window and check through the code carefully. Where you see this <!---instruction---> you should pay attention to the instruction inside as this is a vital warning to some facet of the page. Where you see this {your own text here} or similar you should replace both the text and the brackets with your own text. This is likely to be your name, your age, etc.

To place an image of yourself on the page save your picture as pic1.gif into the same temporary folder on your hard drive as you saved the HTML file. When you upload the HTML to the internet (see below) you should also upload this gif file into the same directory. Be sure to replace the img src code with the appropriate URL (ie your website address then pic1.gif, instead of default.htm, on the end) so the picture can be properly sourced.

Getting Started

Now you have your website HTML, you need to upload it to your website. To do this visit the software section of the Saturn website and enter FTP into the Tucows search box. FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is the method by which you will upload your website to the Internet. For our purposes we recommend you download WS-FTP.

Install WS-FTP then connect to the Internet and open a new site. Enter your site name and then the server address to which you wish to upload - this can be found in your Hypermart confirmation Email. Once you have accessed your webspace create a new folder and call it mysite, open this folder then open Windows Explorer and locate the HTML files you saved from the Saturn website. Click and drag each file into the FTP window. Once this is done your website is up and running. Test your site by entering the URL -
http://
your account name here .hypermart.net/mysite/default.htm

If you receive an error message then something is wrong. Check through the above procedures to ensure you have done everything right. If you have then check your file names are all lower case and you have saved them in the correct directory. If you experience any further problems contact us here and we'll try our best to help you or alternatively contact Hypermart who will also be more than happy to give you a hand.
