Avebury & SurroundingsAvebury is a small village in the county of Wiltshire in England. However, circa 5000 years ago it was clearly a center of some importance, as the evidence of the large, complex Avebury "Ring" neolithic site shows. Older, larger, and in my view far more impressive than Stonhenge, though less well known, Avebury has been comparatively less troubled by organised tourism, and is a much more rewarding destination. These pages do not include any further description or analysis of Avebury, but allow you a few glimpses of the area through interactive panoramas. To find out more about Avebury, this is a good place to start. (Technical note: these panoramas have been compressed as far as possible without making them too poor quality to be worth showing, but they are still fairly large. A good connection or a degree of patience is required!) |
