During the 1970's and 1980's The Regiment was once again
called into action, in January, 1972, negotiations between the British and
Maltese governments broke down, and preparations were made to withdraw all
British forces from Malta, HQ. No 5 Wing with No. 15 Squadron and a rotational
force of Royal Marines from a Commando Carrier in the Grand Harbour of Valletta
under command, secured the airhead at RAF Luqa until a treaty was finally
signed in march. The IRA campaign against law and order in Ulster continued to
absorb an increasing number of Army and RAF units.
The Turkish
invasion of Cyprus in 1974 demanded rapid reinforcement of British elements on
the island including the resident RAF Regiment wing. At short notice, on 26
July, 1974 No 15 Squadron arrived from Wittering on attachment to No 3 Wing to
help secure the western Sovereign Base Area where, with Nos. 27 and 34
Squadrons.

We are now
building up a fine collection of your photographs . However building a site
like this does take some time. Please accept our apologies, if you have noticed
a constant change to the design of the site. Over the past twelve months quite
a lot of hard work has gone into making this site, we have tried to find the
right look, feel, and overall usability, not to mention the content. We also
apologies to those of you who are using a Netscape Browser, this site works
best with Internet Explorer 4, 5.5 and 6. We use popup windows to display the
photographs, this allows you to view a picture without having to continually
press the back button to return to the photo gallery. We have found that some
Netscape browsers have problems. To get the best from the site we recommend
you view it at 800 x 600 using IE.
Please remember that photos can
take longer to download, so please be patient when waiting for images to
download. Try the Blaster below for a good example of how your group
photo's can be displayed on the site. |
