German ambassador to the United Kingdom Dr. Von Ploetz
avoided any mention of the War in June. Members of the European-Atlantic Group asked some tough questions about European integration. He avoided answering them.

Britain, it seemed according to his speech, is the only country where eurosceptics reside. Von Ploetz also accused the British press of not stimulating any real debate on the future of the EU. Yet with Germany haunted by its past he declared Germany's Euro-debate to be over. So Dr. Von Ploetz refuted the need for a German referendum on further European economic and political union. To him "ever closer union" means "devolution."

British Prime Minister Tony Blair has won a successive and historic second term in office for New Labour. The British General Election results, and Opposition leader William Hague's resignation, caused the pound to drop to a record low against the US dollar. Political speculators believe that Britain is now en route to joining the euro.

Russian ambassador H.E Grigory Karasin speaking to the European-Atlantic Group on 'Russia and Europe'

The Russian Ambassador Grigory Karasin spoke to the European-Atlantic Group (E-AG) on 24th May 2001, and reminded the audience that the Cold War is over. Russia now seeks to economic and political co-operation by fostering partnerships with the European Union, and the United States to name but a few countries. Russia, he said, is now applying "a law of logic" to its foreign policy and combatting terrorism.

The European Movement and the Democracy Movement's views and comments revealed.

In this section the European Movement talks about greater transparency within the institutions of the European Union, and counters what it calls:
"anti-European myth-making." The Democracy Movement highlights two articles that appeared in The Times. One criticised Liberal Democrat leader Charles Kennedy. The other discussed a threatened libel suit against the Democracy Movement by three "pro-European" Lib Dem parliamentary candidates.
