  Another season of inconsistent results in the league, but at last there was something to cheer about on the cup front, with the club appearing in the League Cup Final for the first time since 2001.

  James Hunt was first choice between the sticks again, and in Jonathan Postle there was cover when needed. In defence, Mark Duce was back in the squad, though only available for about half of the season, while Barry Armstrong and Steve Sedgwick missed rather too many games for comfort, and Dave Ridsdale and Simon Banoub didn't even sign forms for the club. To add to our defensive issues, Chris Youngs had left the area, and Ben Avison was absent ill. Lee Woods, now almost a veteran, was now a regular at right-back again, and Richard Hudson, now concentrating on defensive duties, was duly installed at left-back. The central defensive responsibilities were generally shared between Baz, Sedge and Ducey, with the reliable Matt Hazel enjoying a successful run in the side in mid-season. In midfield, the usual pairing in the centre was Lee Monaghan and Richard Horton, a partnership that brought much stability to an otherwise rather too variable formation. Andy Bowler and Simon Hinkins were most often used in the wide positions, the latter being the season's major new signing, holding down the left flank as well as weighing in with many vital goals as did Andy. Sam Goodall was another who figured either wide in midfield or in attack, while Adam Foss made a great difference to the side when he played, though regrettably his season was cut short through injury, and Jamie Martin continued to look the part in just about every position on the field wherever he was asked to play. By contrast, Scott Lyons (retired injured) and Paul Unwin (emigrated) were no longer with us, and striker Richard Yarnold was another one absent through injury - in his case we hope only temporarily. The major goalscorer was, yet again, the unflagging Simon Parker, but his most regular partner, John Newsome, though still a player of great influence, was not at his most prolific this campaign. The physically imposing Andy Merifield was added to the squad at the back end of the season, and did enough to suggest that he might do great things in the future.

  An up-and-down autumn saw a sprinkling of creditable results, mingled with the occasional hammering - a similar story to the previous campaign. We also managed to go from leading 3-2 to losing 4-3 in the final minute of a game in two consecutive weeks during October. Some key wins in cup games around the turn of the year kept the season alive, along with a late winner against Westfield, scored by substitute Mark Bednarek. The District Cup run ended in the Quarter-Finals with a narrow reverse at the hands of eventual winners Swinnow, but the League Cup Semi-Final at Pool saw us overcoming holders Crossflatts to set up an unexpected contest against the Rawdon team that had dominated the Wharfedale Triangle more or less throughout the previous decade, but we rose to the task admirably. The team's formation changed significantly for these vital games, three at the back, five in midfield, and Andy Bowler partnering Parker up front. The Final, at Thackley FC, saw a splendid performance, which regrettably ended in a narrow 2-0 reverse, but it was a day on which the club recovered much pride. If the results in the league had been no better than in recent years (and overall they hadn't!), the cup runs had given the club renewed hope for the future.
