Back: Lee Monaghan, Dave Vernon, Andy Constable, Scott Wilkinson, Dave Postle, John Steenson, Kelvin Tapley.
Front: Lee Woods, Darran Wilkinson, Richard Kelly, Martin Woods, Craig Carter, Brendan Walkden.
The time being judged right for a change of Manager,
the club's long-serving goalie Bernie Gilmore was elected to the post.
Though lacking Lee Monaghan and Minny, endeavouring to further their careers
at Tadcaster Albion and Farsley Celtic respectively,
Horsforth signed more than a few new players for our first season
at the dizzy heights of Division Three. The problems soon mounted up,
however, not least injury to Bernie himself. Dave Postle was recalled to the colours,
and Scott Wilkinson was now joined in defence by his brother Darran.
Kelvin Tapley and Sean Taylor held back the floodgates in the centre of the defence,
until the latter suffered a broken leg. Simon Cockill struggled for fitness at left-back,
Ian Burrill helping out here from time to time.
John Steenson continued in midfield or defence as needed,
while Richard Kelly was asked to be Martin Woods's foil at the centre of the formation.
Craig Carter resumed on the left of midfield, while Lee Woods, nephew of Martin,
joined in on the right of the defence, midfield or attack as required.
Paul Blair, Toastie and Dave Vernon featured in the attack, along with another new star,
Bolton's finest son Brendan Walkden.
After Bernie's departure in February,
with Steve Burns as stand-in Manager (again!),
the club re-acquired the services of Lee Mon and Minny,
signed a new midfield player in Neil Grayson,
changed back to green and black stripes (and all-white as change strip),
and grimly set about the task of avoiding relegation.
In a situation rather similar to that of 1989-90,
we did finish outside the bottom two places,
but found that a reorganisation of the league was planned,
and the struggle, character-forming though it may have been, was actually unnecessary.
Highlight - difficult to choose, but the early 3-2 win over Iveson,
after being two down, must be a contender.
