BULLETIN FOURTEEN.....WET FINAL PRACTICE.....
Well you will now know that Fridays practice was as dodgy as the rest and as solo riders came in after a slipping and sliding untimed lap they shook their heads and did not go out again
The poor sidecar lot fared even worse as they set off on a "half lap" to Ramsey then came over the Top like a parade..
This put the final kybosh on the All-Girl American Sidecar attempt..
Their lap was completely wide of the qualifying mark....
However, as ever, these pleasant contestants have had good media publicity and they have also made good friends and HOPE to be back next year.
WELL DONE--They did one lap, albeit slowly but it was in racing conditions and they are no longer TT Virgins !!!!
We are hoping that we will see more Americans coming in future for the future...
However, let's stop and look at what happened to the leased Yamaha-engined outfit when a CON ROD tried to weld itself to the big end at Appledene !!!

CON ROD OR QUESTION MARK ?
OH, B****R--
REBUILD TIME

We now have the composite list of practice times over the week, but it means less this year since there has not been a full weeks practice to analyse.
Thursday afternoon used to be a pointer to possible leaderboard contestants but we did not have a Thursday practice.
It is interesting to see Blair Degerholm had got in the top six in the F1....
IS HE IN WITH A CHANCE ????

( Blair did not do as well as he, and we, had hoped.
There's always next year )

BULLETIN FIFTEEN...BENELLI LAUNCH-+-HONDA RECEPTION-
-AND A LAP WITH KATE PARKINSON !
In my "pigeon hole" in the press office was a flyer inviting me to the first viewing of the new Benelli 900 Tornado Tre (Superbike version) so I was more than pleased to accept
What a beautiful machine !!
Similar in design to the MV AGUSTA but OH SO Different...
When you see it in the mags, have a special look at the rear end and see where they have installed the coolers !!
SEE NEXT WEEKS MCN

Another flyer had invited us all to the Honda reception to meet all their riders and staff.
Fred Clarke did his usual good job and introduced all the team plus Jim Redman, Stan Woods, James Toseland and "the Boss", Mr.Bob McMillan !!!
We had time to talk to all who mattered , were able to partake of some excellent buffet food, and in all, it also made a pleasant afternoon.

JOEY IS INTERVIEWED JOEY WORKS ON
JOEY DUNLOP

I invited Kate Parkinson (Vimto 250 Honda) to come round the course with me on a car lap which she surprisingly accepted, and talked me through HER kind of approach......
It is always extremely interesting to be able to compare different laps through different riders eyes...
And I have had a number of top riders come round and do this with me over the years...
It is not "ON BIKE", so there is more time to properly analyse approaches and lines through bends.
Tree surgeon Kate was more than pleased to get a lap in since she had done few miles because of the poor weather and she did, in fact, actually MISS last years TT...
As it happened we only got to Ramsey before we were sent by the police down the coast road as a direct result of a major RTA at Creg-ny-Baa
Good luck Kate---Come back next year.

KATE RIDES A HONDA---FAST
THANKS KATE

( KATE went on to finish 18th in her race...
Jolly good for a once-a-year TT racing tree surgeon !!! )

BULLETIN SIXTEEN--THE MIDDLE SATURDAY--WHAT A GREAT AND SPECIAL DAY
JOEYS OFFICE DURING THE F1 RACE

Mr TT himself won conclusively and pushed his total of wins up to 24 in front of a hoard of Special Honda guests
The race was started and witnessed by no other than
KATE HOEY MP,
MINISTER FOR SPORT,

KATE HOEY MP

who earlier had also dressed up in leathers and helmet to be a pillion passenger (with Geoff Wilson, CE of the ACU) to do one lap of the course
She returned, trembling with cold and possibly a bit of apprehension ?
You did well, Ma'am, and I thank you for your very positive reactions to our questions concerning the future of the TT....
I was able to ask her personally if she had enjoyed the day and her answer was more than enthusiastic !!!!!!.....

" This is the first event of this kind I have attended----I am very impressed--I have enjoyed today very much indeed "

STARTING FLAG IS DROPPED BY KATE HOEY KATE HOEY GARLANDS THE WINNER

KATE HOEY MP DROPS THE FLAG-------THEN GARLANDS THE WINNER

Our downer of the day was that Blair Degerholm was forced to retire at his second lap pitstop whilst lying in 11th place, when the pit marshalls found his rear brake to be inoperative..
DISMAY INDEED

BLAIR IS OUT OF THE F1 !

BULLETIN SEVENTEEN--WHAT WAS THE SLICK ON THE TT COURSE ?????

THE ARGENTINIANS finished 38th (Parades) and 46th (Cordoba)

THANK YOU
I am receiving a very good and large amount of feedback via e-mail and personal contact here on the Island concerning my site...

Thank you, Mr and Mrs LAMBERT for your very helpful comments and appraisal...

I have also received requests to feature certain riders, which now prompts me to dig even deeper into my VAST COLLECTION to find out what I remember of those riders and what souvenirs of them I can scan or vidig.( video-digitalise)..

Therefore I am creating an extra section on site to cover these
"SPECIAL REQUESTS" and hope to have it up and running after this years TT.

However I am noticing that there seems to be a big "gap" between the 50s/60s and the present day in media terms...
It is strange since the TT went about its business during those years.
It lost the status it had as a World Championship event but still kept going thanks to the enthusiastic fans who still kept coming..
Mike Hailwood is reputed to have saved the TT but the TT tends to go in cycles anyway and survives come what may

I can not answer the questions about the riders who lose their lives...
Like many people within the TT "Family", I have lost very close friends to the races......
How do you respond to a neighbour when you get home, and his first comment is "Oh I see there was another three this year !!"
We cannot keep quoting mountain climbing, horse riding etc. etc. because NO sport should take lives...
My racing pals tell me that they KNOW the risks and are doing something they want to do......
One e-mailed observation noted that in practice there are machines of varying capacity out all at the same time mixed in with others.
