The Nar-Ouse Link Rally:
20th to 22nd June 2003

The recent construction and opening of a lock at Denver aliows craft to navigate from the Great Ouse onto the Relief Channel. The Channel (which was originally constructed for drainage purposes) is navigable to a point some way north of Downham Market. The river Nar enters King's Lynn from the south ending at Boal Quay. Plans which have been put forward by the Environment Agency envisage a linking of the Relief Channel with the Nar to provide a non-tidal link between the Great Ouse and King's Lynn coupled with the construction of a marina and lock into the Great Ouse at Boal Quay. All these plans are together known as the Nar - Ouse Link Project and would be achieved as part of a redevelopment plan for King's Lynn. The potential benefits are considerable.

In order to demonstrate support for the Nar - Ouse Link Project Cambridge and Peterborough branches of the IWA organised a boat rally which took place at the Environment Agency Complex at Denver in June 2003. The Agency was the principal sponsor and considerable support was given by members ofGOBA (the Great Ouse Boating Association). Some 50 boats were entered and the highlight was a mass cruise of craft along the Relief Channel.
