Founder and
Instructor
Theofanis has been
practising and teaching Aikido for more than thirty
years. He was privileged to be taught personally by
the greatest Japanese teacher, and the last personal
student of the founder of Aikido.
From 1972-75
Theofanis served as a non-commissioned officer with
the First Battalion Grenadier Guards.
The years from
1976-82 were pursued in academic education. This
included one year of Greek and Roman philosophy and
one year at Freiburg University.
In July 1982 after
graduating with a B.A. Honours degree in Classics and
German he founded the Richmond Aikido Club. In the
same year he acted as a personal bodyguard for the
royal family of Saudi.
Since then, because
of his revolutionary method of teaching, he has
appeared in hundreds of local and national editorials
including the front page of the Times Educational
Supplement in December 1984.
The culminating
point was in June 1985 when his Junior Class was the
main feature on BBC 1 That's Life
programme.
In April 1996
appointed to teach Aikido at Ibstock Place School a famous private school in
London.
1987: In January made a video
for Panasonic. In July he was appointed to teach
Aikido at the Fountain Leisure Centre in Brentford.
Theofanis is also a writer.
In February 1985 his first article was published in
the Contemporary Reviews magazine.
In 1989 he finished his third
novel and founded his own martial art which will be
launched at the appropriate time.
