Norway
Spruce - Picea Abies (1)
Traditional Christmas Tree and the most
popular variety sold in the UK.
|
Blue Spruce - Picea Pungens
Glauca
Similar appearance to the Norway Spruce, but
very sharp needles. They have a wonderful blue colour and
strong smell.

Scots Pine - Pinus
Sylvestris (2)
This variety has a blueish colour, long
needles and excellent needle retention.

THE
FIRS (3)
All of these have excellent needle
holding characteristics
Nordmann Fir - Abies Nordmanniana
These are probably the best known needle holding
variety. They have a slight blue colour on the underside
of the needle.
Noble Fir - Abies Procera
Similar to the Nordmann Fir, with a slight citrus smell.
Foliage is good for making wreaths and garlands.
Fraser Fir - Abies Fraseri
Silmilar to the other firs.
Douglas Fir - Pseudotsuga Menziesii
Has a strong smell of orange and a beautiful
shape but not such good needle holding
properties as the above Firs.
