Background
Compton Consultants was founded in 1986 as the primary vehicle by which Dr Peter McGeehin
would assist clients with their technology-related business development activities,
primarily in the sensors, instrument and control fields.
After a short period of R&D in the automotive industry, Peter McGeehin spent a decade
at a major government laboratory working on advanced sensor materials, and business
development of sponsored research activities. In addition to his consultancy work,
he has been, in the last 15 years: Engineering Director of a US-owned pressure
transducer company; Chairman and Director of UK Optical Sensors Collaborative Association (OSCA);
Director and Chairman of the UK Sensors Group (UKSG); and a Founder Director of Capteur Sensors
and Analysers Limited. Capteur was a start-up company whose business plan was drafted by Dr McGeehin
and funded with venture capital, now employing 65 people and exporting heavily to the USA. It was
acquired by First Technology PLC in August 2000. Peter McGeehin holds a B.A.(I) in Physics & Chemistry,
and a Ph.D. in Physics, both from Keele University.
Dr McGeehin’s works as an independent technology market development consultant, covering sensing, measurement,
instrumentation and control applications. He provides advice to industry, government and the universities,
employing judgement based on substantial experience of all these spheres.
