Getting There
Here are some maps to help you find the place. I suggest the one of Eguisheim up and printing it out, as this will make the house easier to find.
As a rule of thumb - if you're travelling by car during the day and wish to make good progress, then taking the Peage (tollways) is advisable. Only if you're travelling between 9pm and 8am, can you expect to make reasonable progress on the, often more direct RN (routes nationales/highways). Note that the majority of motorways in France are tollways. Toll fees will cost almost as much the petrol for the same distance and lead-free Super costs, at the time of writing (1/5/98) about FrF 6.20/l.
Some of these are compressed as TIF, clicking on these will launch your fax viewer application, which will then enable you to zoom in and out on the map.

Detailed Map of Eguisheim 38kb TIF
Area-map Colmar/Eguisheim 72kb
Roadmap Le Havre/Paris/Reims 105kb TIF
Roadmap Reims/Nancy/Colmar 133kb TIF (sorry
folks, but maps are hard to compress)
The last two maps are only there for those who don't have a road map of France. If you do have a road map, don't bother looking at these as you'll need to download them.
If you're taking the ferry across the channel, then the route using Le Havre is definitely the fastest, as the crossing only takes 1:30hr, the distance from Eguisheim to Le Havre is shorter and the roads are better. The drive usually takes about 7 hours. From Paris one has to count at least 5 hours drive, depending on the conditions and the chosen route. For more information on Ferries, click.
If you're coming from one of Paris' airports, I recommend getting a rental car at the airport and driving directly from there. Unless of course you wish to see Paris itself, this is the easiest way to get here.
If you enjoy jumping on and off trains, then you should get the metro to the Gare de l'Est and then the train to Colmar (buy the complete ticket at the airport, as the metro fare is included in this and cost about FrF220 per adult back in January). For detailed information, you can dig around in the website of the national Railways, the SNCF. From the Colmar train station it's just a five minute taxi ride to Eguisheim (tell the cabbie Caveau Bacchus, Eguisheim, if he doesn't know that then La Banque Credite Mutuelle, if he doesn't know that, just say centre ville d'Eguisheim or perhaps get another cab).
Once at the Caveau Bacchus, ask for Christine. Christine takes care of the house, which is directly opposite the caveau and also works for J.P. and Olivia, the owners of the Caveau (pictured in The Street on the photos page). The phone number of Caveau Bacchus is 03 89 23 34 13, in case you get lost or wish to book a meal in advance (well worthwhile).
Bon Voyage.
