Devon Open Mini Mons

Sunday 8th March at Kingsbridge S.C

Our club fighters had a fantastic day's judo at this year's mini mons. 19 players took part, this was one of the highest club entries at the mini mons. There were 150 overall competing from different clubs around the West of England such as Grange, Patchway, Poole bay, as well as all our local Devon clubs. Mini Mons are for players under 16 and below orange belt. It gives all the less experienced and novice players a chance to compete and enjoy a days judo.

Our club won 14 medals - two gold's, seven silver and five bronze. The performance of the day came from Adam Roddy U30 he won all his fights by Ippon throws including a lovely left o-UCHl-GARI against Mark Ward, one of the best players in the area at this weight from Patchway. Unfortunately Adam met Mark in the final and lost the second time round. Andrew Burner U55 fought very well in a hard group to gain silver. Adam Brown U55 had a good return to competition after a couple or years out of the sport to win a silver. The players who were competing for the first time were very nervous but all did very well. I hope you continue to enter these events. It does take time to improve, and you will as time goes on.
