RED STORM RISING

The Vermillion Empire is born

Gurrash from Ator crossed over into Shazak, hitting the province of Ah'roog hard. The shazaks of the capital, busy mustering to fight the Bellayne forces, were caught by surprise but managed to fight off the gurrash. The gator men of the Bayou fought to the last lizard, with massive casualties on both sides. Truly Goron must be proud, as Ah'roog was awash with blood of both shazaks and gurrash in Flaurmont. Some gurrash are still present in Shazak - about two hundred warriors even made it to the front with Bellayne at K'Klett, where they were speedily dispatched by the Royal Army of Bellayne.
Queen Ator has reputedly become a vassal of the wyrm Pyre, and the phrase "Vermillion Empire" is already being uttered throughout the lands of the lizard kin. More on Pyre's activities later in this article.

Miles Hits Narvaez

Miles Killian O'Kayne struck Narvaezan shipping last season. Somewhat unusually for a pirate, the coasters he appropriated were stolen and their crews pressed. Narvaezan patrols have intensified accordingly, and only by sheer luck did Miles not have to engage the Narvaezan fleet. Hugo evidently takes pirate attacks on Narvaezan ships very seriously indeed.

Shazak joins Vermillion Empire

Shazak took three knocks before it crumbled, but crumble it did. With incursions from Bellayne (halted by Queen Catherine as of the start of Flaurmont), followed by a massive assault from Ator and lastly Pyre Himself, the shazaks were unable to hold. After the gurrash decimated King Shaz's army nothing was left to halt the wyrm when he presented himself at Ah'roog and forced King Shaz to become his vassal.

Frigate me Not

Miles has had a brush with Pyre himself. On patrol west of Ator, Mile's two frigate, the Selwynn and the Bridget (named after his sister, a Cimmaron Honourbound, and a old love) encountered a fleet of war canoes of the Dark Jungle. Miles picked at a few stragglers, sinking them, but Pyre suddenly appeared and sunk the Bridget with his fiery breath. While several canoes were sunk, surely Miles will feel the loss of a frigate more keenly.

Cay is Crushed

Despite stout resistance, Queen Ss'aa of Cay like her compatriot in Shazak was forced to submit to Pyre. While the orc legions of the wyrm took massive casualties from Torreoner mercenaries and a much enlarged cayma army, the cay men had nothing which could pose a significant threat to Pyre. Queen Ss'aa is the latest of Pyre's acquisitions.

Enduks give Nimmur the Slip

King Anupalassar went to great lengths to cage the enduks in Um-Shedu, negotiating and intimidating his neighbours to set up a ring of steel around the town to trap and wipe out the enduk expeditionary force once and for all. However, it appears that the enduks deceived even their allies, hoping that the disinformation would allow them to slip the cordon. It evidently succeeded, with the enduks, rather than retreating, striking and pillaging Suneveh in what must be a telling blow to Nimmur's economy. While the tactic worked brilliantly, it was not without cost. The enduks were harried every step of the way while on Nimmurian soil, and only a third of their number still live, having fled into the Wind Flats area. Also, the luckless ee'aar left defending Um-Shedu - awaiting enduk reinforcements which in fact were never destined to arrive - were captured as a horde of manscorpions rolled over the town. Most were taken alive, although reports of various atrocities against the citizens of Nimmur and captured ee'aar soldiers are rife.

Jibaru Vassal of Gilmun

King Anupalassar threatened Queen Barana-Ui with death some time ago, and the Queen evidently felt she had no choice but to submit to his will. Apparently the terms of the vassalage included 2000 phanaton warriors, far bigger than the standing army of Jibaru has ever been before. Such a toll must exact a heavy price upon the Queen.

Orcs Disturb Ancient Tomb

Raiders from the Highlands disturbed a pyramid built by the ancients in Tortle Country, triggering a horde of undead to swarm over the territory. The undead wiped out the raiders, and also gave King Edwix of Robrenn some difficulty, as Robrenn soldiers claiming Tortle Land received a nasty surprise. Apparently the legions are led by some form of greater, intelligent undead, highly skilled in the magical arts.

Eusdria Takes Hunden Hills - Tensions Mount

King Sigismund of Eusdria claimed Hunden Hills - a strategic location between Renardy and the Kingdom. Traditionally left empty of forces, King Sigismund refrained from posting military units there, but the annexation could well draw a response from Renardy.
In other news from the region, the Vintage Guild Royale has run into conflict of Eusdria's trade laws. It seems the King intends to maintain tight control over foreign trade in his realm, and has gone out of his way to make life difficult for the VGR guilders in his lands. VGR have found other markets though - Angus Bloodtusk received a bottle of wine from Monsieur Navarre's own vinyard (a fine label), and apparently VGR may free operate within the Highlands.

Torreon and Narvaez relations deteriorate

Narvaezan forces marched to the Torreoner border and practically begged the Torreoner border garrison to attack them. An impromptu No Mans Land of disputed territory has been marked between the nations, and this area has been the site of many duels between hotheaded soldiers of both sides of late. Inquisitors, in particular, seem to react particularly badly to insults.

Inquisition Blamed

The Inquisition are apparently in Hugo's bad books at the moment, having failed to repel raids against northern Narvaez. Rumours fly that the Order of the Inquisition itself will be proscribed in Narvaez - a case of an inquisition being held against the Inquisitors!

Esteban Ousted

In close fighting, Baron Maximiliano ousted his besiegers and drove Esteban himself into the sea at Paso Dorado in two great battles. The effort was not without help (Almarron is awash with Eusdrian marks at the moment, barely an oro can be seen in the Estado) and luck, as Esteban is a brilliant military tactician. Narvaezan troops arrived to assist the so called "El Salvador", and frigates were on hand to evacuate Esteban and a remnant of his forces from the Estado. Estebans supporters remain entrenched in the remote areas of Almarron though, and his resources are reputed to be considerable. While this is a major setback, its not over yet. Maximiliano has problems from other quarters too, as gnolls invaded Costella and sacked what remained of it - killing every villager they could find, to all intents and purposes Costella has ceased to exist.

Kosovsko under Occupation

Zagoran forces entered Biclagul and discovered that their past fears of demons were in fact merelyh a small band of goat headed humanoids. The Zagorans reacted as might be expected, and butchered all they could find claiming Biclagul for their own. Then they pressed on into the mountains, and entered the village of Kosovsko, where the Burgomeister swore loyalty to Zvornik only recently. The burgomeister was executed and a Zagoran governor installed, although violence seems to have been limited only to those professing loyalty to Zvornik rather than against the townspeople themselves. More Zagoran forces are reputedly en route, and the Zagoran army is apparently very large indeed, but the mountainous area around Kosovsko makes it difficult to get large numbers of troops into the wilds. Elsewhere Slagovich was also advancing into the free towns - when they meet Zagora it is likely there will be a clash of arms, and doubtless Zvornik will get involved as well.
However, the frontline with Hule remains solid with Traladaran troops - the famous Zagoran castles are brimming with troops, and Zvornik's garrison also centres around the Hulean border. It is understood that while the priesthood of Halav permits a certain degree of infighting, the priests constantly remind Traladarans of their roots. Whether the Margraves will listen to the rather weakly led Halav priesthood remains to be seen.
