UNREST AND UNHAPPINESS ACROSS THE SAVAGE COAST

Chaos Reigns in the lands of the lizards - and it's not just Pyre...

The Kingdom of Shazak has been thrown into some disarray by the actions of Bellayne's Parliament in the last season. Parliamentary subversives have been at work all over the kingdom, attempting to destabilise Shazak by weakening King Shaz's rule of law over his lands. Together with the actions of the Forked Tongue, who raided the province of Snaat last season, Shaz's grasp over his lands looked tenuous indeed. However, the King came out fighting, and managed to keep a lid on most of the unrest being incited in his lands.
The Forked Tongue clarified matters by saying that they would fight all those who attempt to take over Shazak, be they Pyre, Queen Catherine or any other would-be foe. Rumours are afoot that a sister organisation, the Second Claw, are preparing to begin operations in hitherto peaceful Cay, but those rumours have not yet been substantiated.

Ator Rebuilds

The lizards of Ator are feeling the scars of the Bellaynish tactics as well, with Queen Ator attempting to reassert her control over her subjects, who, respecting only force, have been refusing to pay the Queen taxes while the Queen is without enforcers. Parliamentary agents were at work in Ator as well, though not to the degree that they have been in Shazak. These efforts did little to halt Queen Ator recruiting more enforcers, and she also proved resolute enough to retain her influence in the lands of the neighbouring Wallara.

Jibaru and Wallara continue to spar

The phanatons and wallaras have continued their war over the Forbidden Highlands, with the phanatons, led by Innana the general, throwing themselves against the wallara troops in the Western Highlands. The phanatons were turned back however, but the wallaras decided to retreat of their own accord, pulling all their troops out of the Highlands back to Risilvar. More troops have been mustered across the wallara lands to replace the losses suffered so far in the war.

Eshu fights attempts at guerilla warfare

Agents of King Gildesh thwarted an attempt by Nimmur to bring the war to heart of Eshu by sponsoring bandits and brigands to prey upon Gildesh's subjects. The enduks were suspicious of such a move and fought hard to prevent insurgents and terrorists from establishing themselves, but without luck - our reports indicate that agents of the manscorpions are in place in Sardon, ready to do their masters bidding.

Malakesh the Mighty resurrected

High Priestess Ishaya of Valerias, the Vilaverdan priestess who supported the Verdan strike into Nimmur last season, continued to demonstrate her support for Eshu by resurrecting the fallen Malakesh, the enduk general who lost his life in the heavy fighting some months ago. Malakesh survived the spell, and is said to be preparing the armies of his liege to strike once more into the lands of the manscorpions.

The Rebellion that Wasn't

Rabblerousers in the Hunden Hills spoke out against King Sigismunds' rule of the strategic province, attempting to whip up their fellows into a mini rebellion, but it was not to be. Eusdrian freehearts have been flocking to the Hunden Hills, lured by the fact that King Sigismund levies no taxes there, and they find the situation most agreeable.

Change of hands in Almarron

The gnolls who have been running whats left of Paso Dorado left last month, giving the province over to Esteban. The situation in Almarron has now left Baron Max in command of the capital, while Esteban controls everything beyond the city walls. Maximiliano has turned to sorting things out in his capital, removing Zvornik's trading house there and hiring more watchmen to ensure that the Almarronan famous high spiritedness does not surface again.

Guadalante suffers

Dona Catalina's lands were twice raided in the last season, once by gnolls coming out of Bushwack Prairie, and once by humanoids from the Yazak Steppes - the Kuttai tribe, to be exact. Angus Bloodtusk has also been attempting to wrest control of Flat Noses land from Catalina, but without success. That was not the limit of Catalina's woes however. A deadly plague, rumoured to be magical in origin, broke out in Llanuras de Copetez and Bigotillos - many hundreds of lives were lost in the catastrophe. The gauchos of Guadalante are beginning to grow more sullen as time wears on, and though all are fiercely patriotic, as taxes bite without any progress seeming to be made, there may be a backlash.

Cimmaron tries out rifles!

The new Cimmaron rifled muskets were tried out in combat last season, to great effect. Gnoll raiders in Whitestone were attacked by the reequipped Cimmaron army, which proved itself to be far superior. With the elite company "The Brave Rifles" leading, the gnolls were quickly routed under a barrage of artillery and musket fire, and retreated further into El Grande Carrascal. The Brave Rifles attempted to follow, but upon encountering a much larger gnoll force, pulled back to Cimmaron.

Wizard Wars

The armies of Saragon headed into the Sierra Borgosa two months ago, into lands claimed for some time by the wizard Mazrooth al Yedom, also known as the Sage of Almarron. Balthazars summoned ogres and the Saragoner army encountered a sizable force of undead in the defence, led by Mazrooth himself. The battle proved to be close, but the presence of Mazrooth tipped the balance, forcing the Saragoner forces back to Ciudad Matacan to regroup.

Dissatisfaction in the Verdan baronies

The populations of Vilaverde and Texeiras made their displeasure known with various protests and rallies across both capitals. Vilaverde was the focus of the trouble, with dockworkers and sailors striking to protest against the massive drafting of troops ordered by the two Verdan barons for use in the war against Nimmur. With the populace of both baronies being raised on the sea as much as land, dying in a set piece battle over two thousand miles away is of little appeal, unlike the fanatics of Eshu. With Puerto Escorpiao returned to Vilaverdan control, the Verdans feel that the fighting (or at least the dying) is over, although the priests of Valerias are slower to forget the treatment of their flock in Vilaverde's distant colony.

Zagora founds colony

The Margrave of Zagora, using a ship purchased from a Baronial nation, founded a small colony on the Orcs Head Peninsula, in the area known as Mosquito Land, which was renamed Nova Zagora. With only a tiny navy available to him, and no port of note, it seems likely that Margrave Munte will depend upon the goodwill of other nations in its defence, however.

Shearing ceremony in Hojah

Shkodar saw great festivities last month, as Sergei Hojah, the margraves eldest son, underwent the Shearing Ceremony and left the Isles in search of adventure. The event was overseen by the Patriarch of Halav, Vladimirov, who brought down Halav's blessing onto the margraves lands.

Marriage in Slagovich

With great pomp and fanfare, the Margrave of Slagovich was married to the Princess Katrina of Zagora. Emissaries from the other City States were notable in their absence, although the ceremony was attended by a diplomat from Guadalante and some priests of the Judge that were in the city at the time. The biggest surprise occurred when Pyre himself turned up, in draconic form, over the city and provided some spectacular fireworks (which almost provoked a riot). Elsewhere in Slagovich all was not well however. The superstitious, insular Traladarans have taken offence at the CHJ influence in Grabana, and with this marriage to the "foreign" Katrina of Zagora, it proved too much. The Margraves guard was forced to put down a spirited rebellion in Grabana, and labourers working on the Margraves trade routes refused to work until the situation is resolved to their satisfaction.
