WANT
TO JOIN THE SEA?
If you own/run an expert
web directory or search engine, then SEA membership will allow you to
band together with a group of fellow site owners for joint marketing
activities.
The only commitment you must
make is to place the SEA membership badge prominently on your home page.
New members will be considered
for SEA membership when they meet the criteria below.
This is a fairly common sense
set of guidelines, and is intended to (a) clear up any confusion about
what doth a search engine or directory make (b) set the high quality-hurdle
we expect our members to clear.
- Applicants must have their
own URL (e.g. www.yourname.com) devoted to the sole use of their search
engine
- Sites should be comprehensive
in their coverage of their chosen sector
- The overriding mission
/ content of the site must be to point to external Net resources (e.g.
almost all sites have lists of their favorite URLs, but this isn't
the same as being a search engine or directory)
- Potential members should
strike a common sense balance between being too broad, or too narrow
in their focus. E.g. a directory of science sites is fine, a directory
of sites devoted to the breeding habits of the mottle-backed newt
is too specialist
- A search engine or directory
is defined as a resource that points to 'external' sites (not a site
that contains lots of info. on a specific subject, but doesn't link
to outside sites)
- We'll immediately strike
off any member found carrying out Net-unfriendly behavior ... spamming
out junk e-mail, covertly redirecting to hate sites, covert redirects
towards unrequested advertiser's sites etc.
To apply, send an e-mail
to newmembership@searchenginealliance.com
with details of your URL, subject indexed, plus a short abstract. Try
the same format we use to list engines and directories on our home page.
