The Scarecrow's virtual tour Guide.

Introduction

The main idea is that you direct yourself around the village with the aid of the Director and the large scale map with marked view points (numbered red rings with little pointers). At each view point you can look around, many of these points lead on to further items of interest. Just select "Start Walking" to visit Wrotham village.

The Walking Screen

On the tour your screen is divided in to three parts. The top left is dedicated to a large scale map of the area covered by the virtual walk. Use the scroll bars to move the map up, down, and left, right.
Top right is a list of useful pages available while you walk, e.g. a street map with road names, or this help page.
The bottom section of the screen displays, from left to right, the views, information on the view you are currently looking at and then the Director with links below where available. This display layout changes a little sometimes when panoramic pictures are being displayed.

The Director

This special control is used to select the direction you want to go next. The red triangles point in the directions you are able to move. The LEFT and RIGHT pointers when selected mean turn 90 degrees left or 90 degrees right. The DOWN pointing triangle means turn around 180 degrees and face in the opposite direction. The UP pointing triangle means move to the next map point in the direction you are currently facing.
Note that whenever you move from one map point to another map point, you always start off facing in the direction of the little pointer on the red ring.

The Large Scale Map

Scroll down so you can see map point one (a red ring with a point and a '1' in it). The walk always starts here. You are looking in the direction of the pointer, in this case, west. Apart from using the Director to move around, you can also point and click any of the red rings and jump immediately to that point on the tour. Remember, you will always be facing in the direction of the little pointer whenever you move to a new map point.

You can also click on some the building pictures if a Scarecrow Guided Tour is available, to go straight to it.

Some pictures on the tour have "Hot Spots" that if clicked will allow you to jump to or into the place you are looking at.

Its Best to Close This Browser Window to Return to the Tour.
