| Dave
Bichard, born 1976 in Manchester, but with
only five months of life 'under his belt' he managed to escape to a small
Channel Island called Guernsey.
By the time he was a teenager he had mastered the electric guitar to a level that was acceptable enough for him to be invited to play out live with a local rock band, he took over the role of lead guitar and vocals. Dave gained further experience by playing various styles of music with several bands, including a spell as bass guitarist. Multi and talented are two words that spring to mind. Eventually Dave formed his own band called Potential Difference. In January 1991 they recorded an album/tape of material co-written by Dave and another band member. Local reaction was excellent and with the help of favourable press they sold all their copies. Towards the end of 1991 Dave took to spinning vinyl, this eventually led him to specialising in Underground Club Dance music and through his club work he got to meet various guest DJ’s from the UK, one in particular being the now ledgendary Grant Nelson. October '93 saw his first 12" EP ‘Can’t Stop The Feeling’ released on Nice ‘N’ Ripe, in collaboration with Grant Nelson they were The Dangerous Brothers. The Garage track got airplay, on Radio One by Pete Tong and Kiss FM100 by Graham Gold, amongst others. Dave also worked with Grant on a Jungle-Hardcore released on White label and a Euro-UK Funky House which went out as Touchdown. In 1994, Dave was contacted by a vinyl distribution company who offered him a P&D deal. This led to a flow of 12" EP releases, a few Happy Hardcore, a couple of UK House and a couple of Garage EP’s, all released under various labels and pseudonyms.
A self set challenge led Dave to presenting a Live Act playing a set of Euro styled Techno, it consisted of three keyboard players, two dancers and a trusty DAT machine, named The Larger Than Life Collective. It was a risky endeavour to work a set of his music which had never been released or played before, but the enthusiastic audience of the all-day concert in July '96, gave the penultimate act full honors, Dave was happy he had more than pulled it off!. In the past year, Dave has written and produced numerous radio adverts and trailers, kept working club nights and continued producing and releasing underground Garage and House music, all under various pseudonyms including two on Larger Than Life Records. Some of his more recent tracks have come very close to being licensed by several Major labels, with stronger tracks in the pipeline I believe its a matter of time before the phone keeps ringing. In April 1997 a new weekly dance music radio show called the Vibe-Zone kicked off on Island FM. The show is presented by Carl Ward every Tuesday night and features a chart compiled by Dave along with news snippets he thinks are worthy of a mention. Artist - Composer - DJ - Engineer - Musician - Producer ..... the outstanding and multi-talented Dave Bichard is heading in the right direction … and who dares to argue that in the future he may well be a hard act to follow. |
