The words echo around in her head, drowning out the sound of the radio. It's just some meaningless talk show anyway.
She didn't have to say the words but they still stuck in her craw. They never come easy and it's never easy to watch.
We regret to inform you...
A warm hand presses against her back and rubs there gently.
"Bad night?"
The image of grief-stricken parents recedes slightly, banished by a soft Texan drawl.
We regret to inform you that the body has been positively identified as your son.
"You could say that."
