Coping Some Action
THEY'RE ringing in the changes on the
police drama front both here and abroad.
Former Callan and Breaker Morant star
Edward Woodward heads the crime-fighting
cast of Channel 7's CI5 The New Professionals
(9.30pm, Saturday) a $20 million British
sequel series to the old hit The Professionals.
The theme song remains the same as does
the series creator Brian Clemens but this
time there is no Bodie (Lewis Collins)
or Doyle (Martin Shaw). The crack cops
drive fast sports cars, wear designer
labels and get assigned to cases all over
the world, including South Africa, Canada
and America. Woodward plays CI5 chief
Declan Malone, who heads a young, attractive
team, including moody former US Navy fighter
pilot Chris Keel (Kal Weber), linguistics
whiz Sam Curtis (Colin Wells), while pouting,
wide-eyed 24-year-old Lexa Doig, a part-Filipina,
part-Canadian stunner, is shapely computer
genius Tina Backus.
Directed by David Wickes (The Sweeney,
Special Branch ), the first few episodes
promise explosive action and hi-tech special
effects delivered in a slick, predictable
package reminiscent of the Mission Impossible
genre.
