Author's Notes
OK, this is weird.
I was spending some quality time with the boys (oh I admit
it, I was reading, it's all *your* fault :-) when Phoenix's
notes with "In Theory" triggered a plot bunny. There's more
than one way to skin a rabbit, after all. Then Danny took
over and started demanding a place in the credits, the plot
started generating itself and whole chunks of scariness
happened to make the longest thing I've written to date.
I have absolutely no idea what happened, I was just along
for the ride.
The structure
of this series is a bit funny. Practice Makes Perfect itself
is a triptych, three different views onto the same sequence
of events. That was going to be it (well, OK so it was originally
going to be a single standalone story, you know what I mean!),
but sequels (or rather extensions) have been popping up
like mushrooms, so there will be more stories beyond the
first three.
Many thanks to
Brenda for beta duties, general encouragement, applying
the cattle prod to my original soggy ending, and making
me realise what I was actually trying to do.
Thanks also to
the authors who have been cool with me occasionally sailing
close to their plots and ideas. Since this is the longest
consistent story I've written, I have used more background
than usual. Some of the background material has come from
episodes, but inevitably some of it has incorporated observations
that other authors have made before me. Thanks for letting
me play with your toys!
I wrote part
of this while helping to run a religious holiday for teenagers.
While I was wondering whether or not this was appropriate
behaviour, my eyes lit on a notice in the room I (unusually)
had to myself. "Orals On The Second Floor." What's a poor
boy to do?!
