Tag Stories and Point to Point

What is a 'tag' story?

A tag story is similar to a round robin, which some of you may have heard of. In short, it's a story that a number of people contribute in turn, until the story is completed. People join the list of writers and each is expected to contribute a certain number of pages within a certain time scale.

The difference with a 'tag' story is that the first person to start the story 'tags' someone from the list of contributors to write the next piece, and then when they have finished they 'tag' someone else, and so on until everyone on the list has contributed once. The last person then starts from the beginning again.

For each tag story, we have page with a list of contributors, showing who has already been tagged, and links to the parts. Once the story has been completed, it's transferred to the relevant normal fiction section.

What are the rules?

The rules are simple:

  • sections are limited to 1,000 - 2,000 words (2 - 3 pages)
  • you have 2 weeks to complete your section
  • there will be no killing of cannon characters
  • by the same token, do not write the next person into a corner. So there will be no literal cliff-hangers unless rescue is imminent :)
  • each author is responsible for ensuring that their own section is beta'd. If in doubt there is a list of betas here.

Why are there two stories?

Basically because there are some people who will only write slash and some people who won't touch slash with a barge pole. We're comfortable with both positions, and so we want to cater to everyone.

Slash, for those unfamiliar with the term, implies a same sex relationship. In this context we mean Curtis/Keel although we're not prescriptive. If someone wants to take the slash version off into Spencer/Richards, Backup/female or Malone/male we won't mind. Okay, maybe we'd mind the Malone/male scenario.

Do I have to choose one or can I join both?

You can join both. The more the merrier.

Do I have to be on one of the mailing lists to sign up?

No.

Do I have to have written anything before?

No. In fact, if you haven't written anything this might be a nice way to start since you only need to contribute a part of the whole.

So how much do I have to write and how long do I have?

Each section should be between one and two thousand words (two or three pages or so), and each person has two weeks to do it. When you post your section, you have to nominate who goes next. Depending on how many there are, we'll go one, two or three times through the list of volunteers so that there is a clear ending.

But the main rule is to HAVE FUN!

Sounds good. Where do I sign up?

Please send an e-mail to either:

Alyse: alys4@easynet.co.uk or Chya: chya@tesco.net

Please make it clear in your mail whether you want to sign up for the adult tag story the slash tag story or both.

What happens if real life catches up with me and I can't contribute any more.

Just mail one of us and we'll remove you from the list of people to tag.

Alyse: alys4@easynet.co.uk or Chya: chya@tesco.net
