Bahariya

We left the Auberge du Lac on a windy day, luggage atop the four wheel drives as usual, and to Wadi al Rayan a nature reserve with Egypt’s only waterfall.  We then headed back towards Cairo, the roads being too unreliable to risk taking the more direct small road across to the Bahariya road.  We filled up at an Esso garage outside Cairo, which offered an intriguingly uncharacteristic view towards the pyramids through electric pylons.

The road to Bahariya Oasis gave us our first view of the desert type landscape to come before we arrived at our hotel in Bawiti, the International Hot Springs hotel, complete with iron-brown hot spring, a blissful way to end a day and a great way to prepare for breakfast!
