An early rise for the drive to Luxor from Kharga, and the last time that we would see all our luggage being stashed on the roof-racks of the four-wheel-drives. It was very sad to leave the desert - after a week spent in the wildly different aspects of the Western Desert with its differing formations and colours, unusual hotels, fascinating and seldom viewed sites, and our armed military escort, it seemed very strange to leave it all behind for Luxor with its luxury hotels and many tourists. In the Western Desert we rarely had to share a site with a single other person - in Luxor there are hundreds of them!! |
