A collection of stuff I've done over the last 2 years or so. |
2. Carrot is as Close as a Rabbit gets to a
Diamond
The Beefheart instrumental.
3. Paleoanthropology
Made from the source tape I sent to Bret Hart
for our 1st 'Duets' CD
I played the tape, (which was recorded on
both sides), thru my 4 track, so I was able to hear 1 side playing backwards.
All I did was fade the backwards track in and out, and I didn't do much
of that.
4. Smelly Armpits
This was a jam I had with my old friend
Dave Roberts, who I hadn't seen for nearly 20 yrs. Smelly Armpits was the
name of our 'band' when we were at school. We played it on 2 acoustic gtrs,
and I took the tape home and added bass and perc.
It's crying out for lyrics or other instruments
to come in...
5. Summer Express
Lyrics
This is an improvised bass line I found on
a tape, to which I added a rough gtr line and perc. Gilly came up with
some words, and we adapted them to fit.
6. The Violet Seas do Beckon Me
Lyrics
The bassline was originally done for my 2nd
'Duets' CD with Bret. I found a rhythm in there, and added perc and
improvised gtr. The words are part of an old poem of Gilly's, about
a storm on Ilkley Moor.
It's a bit dense and difficult, and the 1st
30 seconds or so meander a bit aimlessly, but then it gets going, and a
groove is hit, and magic happens, imo.
7. Tsaritsyn
Another from the 1st Duets source tape, made
the same way as trk 3.
8. Why Did You Have to Break My Heart
Lyrics
Played on Ruth's half size acoustic nylon
string gtr.
9. The Phantom Cart
Titled after the Dali painting, because it's
Dali's Cart, geddit?
10. I'm Bugged - click
for streaming Realaudio file
Lyrics inspired, and often
directly quoted from, an email from Matthew
Lewis .
Done as a demo for the Fourfathers.
11. Rewarewa
Part of a long piece of bass twiddling I found
on an old tape.
The sunshine on your face
With your hat that's trimmed
with lace
When we had our last embrace
Now I'm riding the train
Summer Express
I'm on my way to you girl
And when I get there
I'm gonna ride the line
All the way down
Come here baby
Let me ring your bell
The sunshine on your face
With your hat that's trimmed
with lace
I'm on my way to you
Summer Express
Can't wait to see your brand new dress
Clickety clack
Your lover's back
Riding on the train
Clickety clack
Your lover's coming back
On the Summer Express
The Violet Seas do Beckon
Me
The
violet seas beckon me to walk amongst the mist
On either side ferns bow forming a path
Colours so vivid form fantastic shapes and figures in seas of merging contrast
Feet pad on broken beds of bracken following winding weatherworn tracks
Suddenly an inpenetrable fortress of rock and stone
Winds wind abruptly up and down whistling
Moustaches of breezes catch the grass
A thuddering shud the earth heaves the air is still
Suddenly dark stealthy storm clouds slide above
And a sudden thuddering bolt stikes the stone
And small stones fall slithe like down the scree
Black clouds menacingly amass and surge and back and surge advance
Such cracks and whips like lashes are dealt the ravaged rocks
But behold! The rising sun forces back the legions of black to heat cold
earth
Refreshed from it's rest the wind heaves and blows and splinters and scatters
the clouds above
Ensuring the return of light
Colours vie again for prominence
The violet seas do beckon me to walk and think in light.
Why did You Have to Break
my Heart
Now
tell me baby, why did you have to break my heart?
It's so sad to say best friends have to part
I knocked on your front door, then I heard your back door slam
You said it was the wind, I know it was another man
I treated you like a princess, and this is how you pay me back
I'm leaving in the morning, I ain't never coming back again
I'm gonna get up in the morning, catch the morning train
I won't be coming back no more, you won't see me again
I'm going back home where I'm better known
When
you look for me baby, I'll be long gone
Gonna find another woman, one that's gonna treat me right
She'll kiss me in the morning, love me all through the night
hey now baby, what did you have to break my heart for?
I'm so sorry the day that I ever entered your door
I'm Bugged
Here
come the bugs
I open the door and in they fly
Big as yuh hand
They splat the walls
Feathery wings explode into dust
Yellow streaks dripping
Slapping into the walls
And bursting
Filling the air with fine specks
Can't get no sleep
I can't even breathe, it's so damn hot
where they hit the walls
Mucus streaks of yellow
Mixed with red blood
Dripping slowly sticky orange
Down the wet walls
And congealing
Into hard transluscent lumps
Lost all my lovers
They keep finding the buggers under the covers
Big as yuh hand
I can't breathe
Fucking specks of blood n' moth dust
Fucking bugs
The bug dust from their bursts
I'm cursing
Filling the air with fine swears
