THE TEN SHILLING MEN

Country-rock-folk-funk outfit put together by George and Danny Goring following the demise of The Band That Never Was . Left drummerless after the departure of Tim Rich to the lights of London, the brothers eventually teamed up with Nick Kenward and formed The Ten Shilling Men. The early rehearsals revealed a raw, folk-punk sound which later developed a poppier direction when Wilf French joined on keyboards in late 1985. Gigs included the Cowbeech Live Aid festival of 1985 and the Six Bells, Chiddingly. The band split in the spring of 1986 when the Gorings moved to Lewes. Although no recordings remain of the band, a song from the Ten Shilling Men's set - 'A Green & Pleasant Land?' - appears on Four Seasons Underground by The Wild Service.

Wilf French later took up the bass and now plays regularly with jazz-funksters Mezzrow
