C. 1992
Instruments used: guitar, prepared guitar, bass, prepared bass, organ. Recorded at Freckleton.
I wanted to do something completely different this time. All tracks are entirely improvised and first take only. Where there are overdubs they are freely improvised over the other tracks. The titles, with one exception, were chosen randomly, using a complicated system involving a dictionary and dice.
Planetoid
Apart from the first 10 seconds or so, where there are two guitars playing, it is all done on one guitar. The effect that sounds like echo was achieved by balancing a 6v torch battery on the strings and gently rocking the guitar.Midrashim
3 guitars.Sea Lion
Sounds a bit like a lumbering sea creature.Spiraled Riotous Felicity
Guitar played with cutlery.Spermatophore
2 basses.Annihilator Gun

Short piece created to fill the tape.Premature Rubble
1 guitar.Salos’ Message
This title is the exception to the dictionary/dice method. Salo is a character in Kurt Vonneguts’ novel “The Sirens of Titan”. He is carrying a message from one end of the galaxy to the other. The message turns out to be a single dot, symbolized by the last note of the piece.Letter of Comfort
Guitar, bass, organ.Doubtfulness
3 basses.
