About 4009. HOW DID YOU FIRST DISCOVER CAPTAIN BEEFHEART & THE MAGIC BAND,
AND WAS THERE A PARTICULAR SONG THAT MADE YOU SEE THE LIGHT?:
One night on John Peel every 3rd track was Beefheart. I bought The Spotlight Kid a few days later. By the time Clear Spot came out later in the year, I had Troutmask, Mirrorman, Strictly Personal and Decals (I considered trying to return Decals because it was so overpowering.)10. As the years go by it is extraordinary how much more you can still 'get' out of the music. It was years before I realised how humourous and earthy
some of the lyrics are. They're a kind of strange American folk music.
