Here are some reviews and extracts from letters received from satisfied purchasers of the discography.

Review - RED BANK SPECIAL (the house magazine of the Count Basie Society). "Those of you who already posess the 1979 book by the same author, 'BORN TO SING', will be interested to know of this revised edition of that valuable work ...... I find all of this fascinating to thumb through, and a mine of information .... a piece of work I thoroughly recommend, a tremendous effort on the part of the author." Geoff Jones.

Review - JAZZ JOURNAL INTERNATIONAL. "Everything, and more required of a top quality artist discography is here .... I have only the highest praise for this model publication, and recommend it unreservedly to everyone interested in jazz discography and the recordings of the world's greatest jazz singer in particular." Bob Weir.

Review - JAZZ FM. "Sixteen years ago, JACK MILLAR'S discography of BILLIE HOLIDAY 'BORN TO SING' was published and ever since has been the definitive work. Now a new 'user friendly' update, completely revised and published on loose-leaf A4, is available .... Loose-leaf form is a boon to any avid collector because updated pages ... can be slipped into the main work. And that 'main work' is formidable in it's detail and a tribute to careful research .... you don't even have to be a BILLIE HOLIDAY fan to get enjoyment and a sense of 'Well, I never knew that' from JACK MILLAR'S work .... (this) definitive discography is a tribute as well as a reference masterwork." John Toogood.

Review - JAZZ JOURNAL INTERNATIONAL. "I reviewed Jack's updated and expanded BILLIE HOLIDAY discography 'FINE AND MELLOW' in the November 1994 issue and recommended it unreservedly. Eighteen months of regular use have increased my admiration for this invaluable work of jazz research." Bob Weir.

Review - CODA MAGAZINE. "Fortunately for jazz, JACK MILLAR has been around to document all of Billie's known recordings and possible sources of other recordings (from concert performances, TV shows, etc.) which may yet turn up, in a monumental work begun 45 years ago, when Billie was alive and active, and still ongoing. It is one of the finest and best researched documents on any jazz artist ever published and a model for all discographies." Al Van Starrex.

"Many thanks for the superb BILLIE HOLIDAY DISCOGRAPHY. The layout is excellent and makes this one of the most 'user friendly' discographies I have come across."

"This is excellent in all respects and I congratulate you for putting together this mammoth publication for the benefit of all collectors and posterity. It must stand alone as the finest document ever assembled on any jazz artiste, and will perhaps encourage others to attempt the same on other members of the jazz fraternity."

... and enormous lots of thanks for the absolutely magnificent new edition of Billie's discography. My copy of 'BORN TO SING' from 1979 really is worn out. This is a masterwork indeed."

The series compliments the main discography, or can be used in it's own right. If all the information contained in this extension series had been included in FINE AND MELLOW, the book would have become unwieldly in both size and price.
