Minor and Unsurfaced Highways
This is a typical example of the what is meant by an unsurfaced highway. This particular one is located in Derbyshire and has been used by vehicles for many centuries. Note that for most of its length it is hard surfaced (stone) and thus this lane is not going to be easily damaged. It is GLASS policy not to use routes that might be damaged by their use and to campaign for Highway Authorities to maintain them in a suitable manner.

This lane in Manchester shows how little use some lanes receive. As well as the lane being obstructed by a large boulder, it is also partially overgrown. This makes its use by walkers and horse riders difficult and some vehicular use would help to keep back the vegetation for the good of everyone.
