Manchester GLASS Meeting
Items for discussion at meeting on 11th June 1998

1. Green Lane Day 1999.

Green Lane Day 1999 is provisionally on 28th March 1999. We need to advise all local clubs of this date and urge them to include it into their social calendar in order to avoid any clashes and to ensure that as many people are available as possible.

We need to start thinking towards this event and identifying areas that we wish to become involved in. A co-ordinator needs to be appointed.

2. Co-operation Between Clubs.

Nearly all of Manchester’s 4x4 clubs have RoW officers. GLASS is in a unique position to bring these groups together. How can we promote this?

At the last meeting we discussed the following ideas:

None of the above have yet been done.

3. User Forums.

Stockport (Monday 18th May 1998):

Rochdale (Monday 8th June 1998):

 4. Future Offers of Maintenance Assistance.

A draft document was distributed at the last meeting.

Where do we go from here?

5. Survey Forms and Database.

Survey forms are now available and a stock of blanks will be available at the meeting.

The database is progressing slowly and most of the South Manchester lanes that we know about are now entered. When every Metropolitan Borough has been covered the information will be supplied to the AWDC.

No contact has yet been made to Highway Authorities regarding providing input to their recording system whilst we are surveying all of Manchester's lanes.

6. Training Meetings

In view of the lack of publicity that has been provided it would be expedient to postpone the first training meeting. When would be a suitable date and how do we ensure that as many people as possible attend it?

It would be preferable to have some idea of the number of people that will be attending in advance of any training meeting. Is this viable and how can it be achieved?

7. Local Social Events.

Pat Kent has a list of social events that have been organised.

It was agreed at the last meeting that we would have a laning trip on the Sunday following the Thursday meeting (14th June 1998). This will take place in North Manchester - details at the meeting.

8. Cheshire.

Reclassification orders have been made for two RUPPs in North Cheshire. Both suggest bridleway status. Although the first (Carter Lane) does not have conclusive evidence of vehicular rights, the second (Stubby Lane) has very strong evidence.

Objections to both orders are being submitted and a complaint is being made to The Chief Executive regarding the way in which the recommendation of bridleway status was arrived at.

9. Local Lane News.

The database (see above) contains information on the current issues relating to individual lanes and when complete will provide a reference to the state of progress for each lane.

However, the first 'Bod's Top Ten' covers the ten lanes that we are most actively involved with. This list is available at the meeting.

Bullet points for a couple of current lanes and general issues are available at the meeting and require letters to be written to the appropriate authorities.
