Manchester GLASS Meeting
Items for discussion at meeting on 9th July 1998

1. Green Lane Day 1999.

Green Lane Day 1999 is provisionally on 28th March 1999. We need to advise all local clubs of this date and urge them to include it into their social.

Trevor Kent was appointed (in his absence and subject to confirmation) to co-ordinate the 1999 event. We need to advise local clubs, organise manpower, contact councils and identify specific lanes that we wish to attend to.

2. Co-operation Between Clubs.

Ideas that have been discussed include:

None of the above have yet been done. However, Phil Lord of the TRF has been invited to attend and Paul Byron of the AWDC already does attend.

3. Maintenance Policy

The approved maintenance policy document is currently being considered by the GLASS national committee. We are awaiting their comments.

 4. Survey Forms and Database.

Survey forms were made available at last month's meeting and more will be available at this meeting. Currently we need survey forms to be completed and returned to Dave Pickering. The information is stored on a database which will be used to provide user evidence, lane data for promotional and educational material and statistical information for use when talking to the Highways Authorities, the government and the Countryside Commission.

No contact has yet been made to Highway Authorities regarding providing input to their recording system whilst we are surveying all of Manchester's lanes.

5. Local Social Events.

Pat Kent should have a copy of future social events available at the meeting. Following the laning/survey day which we had around Bolton and Bury on 14th June 1998 another will be held on 12th July 1998 - full details will be available at the meeting.

GLASS is to have a stand at Billing this year and volunteers are needed to staff it. Volunteers will get free admission (subject to confirmation) and camping can be arranged. Billing is held on 18th and 19th July 1998.

6. National GLASS News.

The GLASS membership secretary has now changed and the membership period is one year from the date of joining. GLASS wants to have a major membership drive starting with the stand at Billing (see above).

It has been agreed that it is necessary to get away from the image of just driving 4x4s on lanes and that we should actively promote the preservation of Green Lanes for ALL users and try to work strongly with Highway Authorities, Landowners and other user groups.

There is now a GLASS email distribution list which is open to GLASS members only. Furthermore, there is a national GLASS web-site at http://www.glass-uk.home.ml.org

7. Local Lane News.

'Bod's Top Ten' again contains some details of lanes that are currently causing concern. Some are repeated from last month but with different or further information. Bullet points are again available to form the basis of your letter writing.

8. Legal Orders.

A page on the Manchester GLASS web-site has been added which lists all the current legal orders in Manchester and the surrounding counties that we currently know about. A copy of this page is being distributed at the meeting along with information to assist in objections being lodged.
